It should come as no surprise that I have an affinity for aviation. Each successive version of the Blue Yonder website has carried some form of tribute to those amazing young men (and women) and their flying machines.

I call this iteration my "Doctor Strangelove" site, partly due my appreciation for the film and partly because I am a child of the Cold War era between the United States and the former Soviet Union. As we all prepared to "Duck and cover", both sides kept building bigger bombs and bigger planes to carry them. Featured here are the actors from a stage in a drama playing out on both sides of an iron curtain. Many of these giant birds are gone now. I choose to remember them, not as instruments of destruction but as an overwhelming deterrent that saved a warring world from itself. I'm Ray Lonsdale, artist, designer and writer.
